Durham University Science Library & Appleby Lecture Theatre
Client Brief - To address problems with the existing fittings, in order to provide a more cost effective, energy efficient and easy-to use system.
After the sites had been surveyed, new schemes were developed and installed. In the library, lights were relocated in-line with the aisles between bookshelves. Movement sensors were installed so that energy was saved when aisles were not used.
In the Appleby Lecture Theatre innovative, dimmable, recessed lights were built into the ceiling, providing ease of access for maintenance from the roof above.
Both projects paid for themselves in energy savings within 18 months.
